California Coastal Cleanup Day welcomes more than 60,000 volunteers statewide who pick up hundreds of thousands of pounds of trash and recyclables from beaches, lakes, and waterways each year. It brings awareness to the marine litter problem and provides a community event for direct involvement. Help us by joining in the fight to preserve wildlife by taking trash out of the environment.
This event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup, organized by the Ocean Conservancy. California Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest volunteer event in the US and International Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest volunteer event on the planet.
This is an event that you don’t want to miss! A stunning coastal setting with local seafood, local bands and local brews, all for a great cause – raising money to keep our local pier operating for the public all year long!
This year’s menu features BBQ Oysters, Point Arena Salmon Cakes, Baja Fish Tacos, Island Albacore Kebabs, New England Clam Chowder and Gulf Coast Shrimp Cocktail along with BBQ corn-on-the-cob, fresh salad and fries, hot dogs and burgers, and a variety of soft drinks and locally-made desserts.
Libations include local craft beer courtesy of North Coast Brewery, local assorted wines, hard cider from OZ Farm, and non-alcoholic beverages including homemade lemonade and mineral water.
This 20th Annual Harborfest hosts live performances by local and regional acts The Casuals, JJ Mulekat, Burnside, and Middle Children.
A kid’s area will host a bouncy house and gaming center as well as fun activities by ACTION Network and ACORN Partners in Education.
There is no entrance fee for the event. Purchase $1 tickets at the entrance gate for food, drink and activities. This is a cash-only event.
Parking is available in the adjacent Rock Wall park and along the north side of Port Road only.
Please bring your kids, but please leave your dogs at home.

2019-2027 Final Housing Element Update
The City’s Housing Element Update consultant, PlanWest Partners Inc., is working with the City to create Point Arena’s 2019-2027 Housing Element Update. The update is required by the California Department of Housing and Community Development. The City’s last Housing Element Update covered the period 2014-2019.
The Point Arena City Council will take public input and finalize the Housing Element at a special meeting on October 8, 2019.
What is a Housing Element?
Since 1969, Housing Elements have been mandatory portions of local general plans in California because providing housing for all Californians is considered by the state legislature to be of vital statewide importance. A Housing Element provides an analysis of a community’s housing needs for all income levels, and strategies to respond to provide for those housing needs. It is a key part of the City’s overall General Plan. State Law establishes that each city accommodate its fair share of affordable housing as an approach to distributing housing needs throughout the state. State Housing Element law also recognizes that in order for the private sector to address housing needs and demand, local governments must adopt land-use plans and implementing regulations that provide opportunities for, and do not unduly constrain, housing development by the private sector.
Rules regarding Housing Elements are found in the California Government Code Sections 65580-65589. Unlike the other mandatory general plan elements, the housing element is required to be updated every five years. It is also subject to detailed statutory requirements and mandatory review and approval by a State agency — HCD (Department of Housing and Community Development).

As part of PG&E’s Community Wildfire Safety Program, PG&E is implementing additional precautionary measures to help reduce the risk of wildfires. If extreme fire danger conditions threaten a portion of the electric system serving the community, PG&E may turn off electricity in the interest of public safety. This is called a Public Safety Power Shutoff.
Your energy company makes the decision to turn off power by monitoring local fire danger conditions across California and taking into consideration a combination of weather and environmental factors.

In the event of a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), PG&E will provide notifications to their customers. Power outages could last multiple days depending on the severity of the weather and other factors. It is important that you and your family have an emergency preparedness plan in place. Point Arena residents should prepare now for a PSPS event.

SUMMARY: The City Council will review whether the adoption of an underground utility zone is in the general public interest for the reasons stated in Point Arena Municipal Code section 12.20.030 and determine whether to adopt a resolution establishing an underground utility zone. The underground utility zone will use PG&E work credits to fund the undergrounding of overhead electrical utilities.
ALL INTERESTED PARTIES are invited to attend the Public Hearing and give testimony and/or present evidence relative to said application. If you challenge the project in court, you may be limited to raising only those issues you, or someone else, raised at the public hearing or in written correspondence delivered to the City at or prior to the public hearing.

The City of Point Arena will accept sealed bids for the Riverside Drive & Windy Hollow Road Improvements Project, #2019-01, by or before June 26, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., at the Point Arena City Hall, located at 451 School Street, Point Arena, California 95468, at which time the bids will be publicly opened and read aloud.
Project Description
The City proposes to perform roadway improvements along approximately 1,100 feet of Riverside Drive and approximately 175 feet of Windy Hollow Road. Proposed work on Riverside Drive consists of the removal and disposal of deteriorating asphalt concrete (AC) paving, placement of new AC paving and overlay, and improvements to existing drainage facilities, including the installation of a new storm drain inlet. Proposed improvements along Windy Hollow Road include the removal and disposal of deteriorating AC paving, placement of new AC paving, and the installation of two 6-inch sub drains.
An Add Alternate consisting of 30,000 square feet of AC paving overlay on Eureka Hill Road.
Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Cost for Base Bid: $233,395
Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Cost for Add Alternate: $110,000
An electronic copy of the Plans and Contract Documents for the Project may be obtained at City Hall for a fifty dollar ($50) non-refundable charge for each thumb drive. They are also posted on the local Builders Exchange websites.

The City of Point Arena reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
This is a prevailing wage contract.
July 6 & 7 2019The most highly anticipated event on the South Coast – the Point Arena Independence Celebration – will occur the weekend of July 6 & 7, 2019! Join us for food, fun and the largest display of fireworks in the region in beautiful Arena Cove!
Come early and stay late for the Street Fair at Arena Cove. Festivities kick off at 4:00 pm with food, bands, arts and crafts, kids’ activities, and entertainment. The Fireworks Extravaganza by Devastating Pyrotechnics will explode into the night sky starting at dark!
This year’s band lineup includes:
$ 10.00 General Admission /$5 for youth 12-17 / children under 12 free / $20 for a family of four
Parking for the street fair and fireworks will be available at City Hall and in parking lot locations on Port Road. No on-street parking is available on Port Road. A shuttle bus will run from City Hall to the Cove from 4:00 P.M. until 11:00 P.M.

The Annual Downtown Parade steps off at noon on Main Street. Groups are welcomed to join the parade. Since this is a family-friendly parade, we ask you to keep things classy, safe, and fun.

This spectacular event doesn’t just happen out of the blue – it takes many hours of planning and lots of work by a dedicated group of volunteers and City staff. Come revel in the arts at the 2019 Almost Fringe Festival in Point Arena on Saturday April 13!
Main Street will be teeming with music, arts & crafts, food, kids activities and special events at local shops.
Druid’s Hall will host a craft fair featuring a wide variety of jewelry, clothing, leather goods, bath & body products, artwork, pottery, wood boxes and artisan foods.
The musical line up at Centennial Plaza showcases the local talents of Black Sugar Rose, RaWisdom, Middle Children, Funkidactel, and Steve Oliff.
Bring the kids! Action Network will host face painting, an egg hunt, and jumpy house from 1-4pm.
And be sure to bring an appetite for the Pop-Up local cuisine offerings and restaurants in and around town.
Just outside of town the Point Arena Lighthouse hosts the Berkeley Kite Wranglers and their giant kites for a Wind & Whale Celebration from 10:00am-3:00pm.
At 7:30pm, put on your dancing shoes for the Blues on the Coast show featuring guitar virtuoso Joe Louis Walker, at Arena Theater.
