ABOUT THE CITY COUNCIL
City Council meetings are where the community comes together to help guide the future of Point Arena. Councilmembers talk through local issues, listen to residents, and make decisions with an eye toward keeping our town a great place to live, work, and visit.
Point Arena operates under a Council-Manager form of government. Five Councilmembers are elected at large to serve four-year terms, and the City Manager is appointed by the Council to handle the City’s day-to-day operations. Elections are held on the first Tuesday of November in even-numbered years. After each election, the Council selects one of its members to serve as Mayor, who presides over meetings and carries out ceremonial duties alongside their regular Council responsibilities.
All City Council meetings are open to the public, and citizens are encouraged to attend, share their comments on key issues, and learn more about how the City operates.
City Council agendas are posted at least 72 hours before each meeting, or by 5 p.m. the Friday prior to a Tuesday meeting. Agendas are available on the City website, sent by email, and posted at City Hall, the U.S. Post Office, and the Coast Community Library.
Supporting documents and staff reports can be accessed on the City website. They may also be requested by phone at 707-882-2122, via email at admin@pointarena.ca.gov, or picked up in person at City Hall, 451 School Street.
