ABOUT THE CITY COUNCIL
City Council meetings play a crucial role in governing Point Arena. Councilmembers deliberate, discuss, and make decisions on various issues that affect the community. They provide transparency, accountability, and an opportunity for civic engagement, ensuring that the interests and needs of the residents are represented and addressed.
Point Arena has a Council-Manager form of government. Five Council members are elected at large to serve four-year terms. The City Council appoints the City Manager. Elections take place on the first Tuesday in November during even-numbered years. Each year, the Council selects one member to serve as mayor. The Mayor presides at Council meetings and has ceremonial responsibilities, in addition to his or her other Council duties.
All meetings of the City Council are open to the public and citizens are encouraged to attend to comment on key issues as well as learn more about how the City operates.
City Council Agendas are posted at least 72 hours in advance of any Council meeting, or no later than 5pm the Friday before the Tuesday meeting. Agendas are posted on the City website, delivered by email, and posted at City Hall, the US Post Office and Coast Community Library.
Supporting documentation and staff reports are available at the City website. Materials may also be requested by phone at 707-882-2122, via email at admin@pointarena.ca.gov; and picked up at City Hall, 451 School Street.
